All you need to do is click the link https://www.facebook.com/byjanbrett/app_202408116456289 and complete the contest form with your name, Falls-Lenox Primary School, Olmsted Falls, OH in the information fields and “like” her page.

Entries need to be made from a laptop or computer – they will not work from a Smart Phone. Each person can enter once. If you have relatives, friends, students, and/or a spouse with FB accounts, please ask them to help us out.

Our students and staff appreciate your taking the few minutes to log on and help. What a treat it would be for our students to win!

School Vision & Hearing Screening

Dear Parents,

Beginning on November 7th and continuing every Wednesday until completion, our school will be conducting vision and hearing screenings for students in grades 1 and 3.  This year, one of our parents and local optometrist Scott Sedlacek, OD, is volunteering to assist us with the vision screenings.  We will also have the assistance of parent volunteers from our PTA, as well as volunteers from our local Kiwanis.

Why is it important to have your child’s vision screened?
Screening is important because it helps us to identify if your child has vision problems or might be at risk for vision problems.

Vision screening will consist of any of the following tests:

  • Observation (1st and 3rd grades)
  • Monocular Distance Visual Acuity (1st and 3rd grades)
  • Ocular Muscle Balance (1st grade)
  • Stereopsis (1st grade)
  • Color Deficit (males only, 1st grade, if not previously screened in Kindergarten)

**If your child has glasses, please be sure he/she brings his/her glasses to school on these days.**

Why is it important to have your child’s hearing screened?

  • Hearing is important for speech, language development, reading and learning.
  • A hearing screening can detect if your child needs further hearing testing.
  • Even if your child has previously passed a hearing screening, his/her hearing may have changed.
  • Hearing problems can be related to or indicative of underlying medical conditions.

Hearing screening will consist of the following test:

  • Audiometry – Screening of hearing acuity.

School screenings provide only a snapshot of how your child performs on the day the test was administered.  School screenings do not substitute for a complete eye exam by an optometrist or opthalmologist or for a complete hearing evaluation by an audiologist.

If your child fails any part of the hearing screening, we will rescreen your child several weeks following the initial screening.  You will be informed of test results and necessary follow-up only if your child fails the rescreen.

If you have any questions, please contact the school clinic at 440-427-6412 or me at 440-427-6364.

Sincerely,
Carol Meszaros, RN
District Nurse

Parade of Costumes at Falls-Lenox

On Wednesday, October 31st, Falls-Lenox Primary School will hold a Parade of Costumes at 1:15pm.  Weather permitting, the students will exit the west end of the building, parade on the sidewalk around the front of the school and enter the building at the east end near Kids First.  Please park on the sides of the building (west end or east end by Kids First).  It may be helpful to carpool, as parking will be limited.  During the parade, no cars are to enter or exit in the front (oval area) of the building.  In the event of bad weather, the students will parade inside the building.

We would like to take the scare out of Halloween and focus on the creativity and fun of this holiday.  Please make sure your child’s costume is appropriate for our Primary School.  Below you will find some guidelines for costumes that may help you prepare for this fall event.  Thank you in advance for your help with this very special day!

Costume Guidelines:

  • No weapons (real or fake) are allowed at school.  We do not permit swords, guns, knives or weapon-like toys anytime.
  • Please make sure that long trains are not worn as part of the costume.
  • Masks can only be worn during the Halloween party time and not on the school bus.
  • No face make-up should be worn to school.
  • Costumes should not be worn to school.  Children will be given time to change into their costumes before we begin our Halloween parade.

Thank you,

Colleen Longville

Order forms are available in the school office for any student that was not able to have their pictures taken in October.

Falls-Lenox Walking Club

What is the Falls-Lenox Walking Club?  The Falls-Lenox Walking Club is a fun program that will be starting in December. It is a great way to get fit and burn off some excess energy during the cold winter months when we have indoor recess.  Members will  have the chance to walk with their friend, get some exercise, and walk with special guest walkers.  Parents are welcome to come and help out and/or walk with their child.

When will we walk?  We will walk during the lunch recess periods on the scheduled days (Tuesdays) from December 6 through March 13.

Where will the walking club walk?  The walking club will walk in the Falls gym.

How does the walking club work?  All students will participate in walking club on their classroom scheduled day.  If outside recess is available on the scheduled day, walking club will be cancelled so the students can get some fresh air and play outside.  Students do NOT need a permission slip to attend.  You can contact Mrs. Butto with any questions at 440-427-6407.

Security Drill 11/29

On Tuesday, November 29th, we will be holding our annual security drill.  The drill will be held at 9am.  the purpose of these drills is to practice our procedures in the event a stranger would enter the building.  The drill is held each year, as required by the State of Ohio, in order to be prepared in case of an emergency.

The teachers will be preparing their classrooms for the security drill and will be using the following statement with the children.  You may also wish to prepare your child using the same language to help support safety at school.  It is our goal to prepare students for this type of emergency without causing undo worry or alarm.

At school, we continue to make sure that all of you are safe.  We have Mr. George in the front of the building making sure that only safe people come into our school.  However, just in case a stranger comes into our building, we are going to practice what we should do to keep all of us safe.  This is a lot like our fire and tornado drills.  We don’t expect that we will ever actually have a fire or tornado or a stranger in our building, but we have to practice what we should do to keep safe just in case it does happen.

As in all situations, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your continued support of all of the children at Falls-Lenox.

Sincerely,
Colleen Longville
Principal
